Staff training
is complete. I haven’t had a break in 15 days and I’m exhausted, but so happy,
so excited and totally in the rhythm of camp. Staff training was fantastic and
the staff are wonderful.
My new
property manager T has worked incredibly hard to get camp organized and cleaned
up and it looks better than it has in years. My dad worked really hard these past
few years. He took out countless dumpsters of junk and burned even more still.
He fixed and built and organized. T is able to build off his progress and camp
looks amazing.
The water is
still really high at the beach and the docks are not in yet. I am frustrated
and struggling to accept the fact that we might not be able to offer swimming
this first week. Historically, it’s been sort of cold and rainy, so maybe it
won’t be the end of the world, but I am really frustrated. I don’t think we can
have them swim at Sunset Beach because it’s really rocky and without docks, I
think it’s kind of dangerous to just send the kids out into the open water. I
have struggled with this decision all week, but I think that we will probably
just have to skip it. If it’s really hot, we’ll come up with some good water
games on the field and try to make up for it.
Other than
the high water, everything is in good shape. M&M are doing a fantastic job
with programming and leading the staff. A is organized, knows exactly what needs
to be done five steps ahead of me, Z is figuring out how to cook and thankfully
the food company has a WONDERFUL sales rep who has already spent several hours
helps us calculate how much food we need to order.
I am always
nervous before camp starts. It is a lot of responsibility and I’ve read a lot
and been to a lot of trainings on risk management to know that bad things can
happen. There is a whole summer of unknowns ahead and so I always feel a little
apprehensive before it all begins, but I think this is going to be the best
summer yet. I
