Last week, at the local American Camp Association spring education event, I presented, "No Money, No Problem- Camp Programming on Budget" and yesterday, I presented at the Midstates Camping Conference.
I was super nervous last week because, while I have presented a million staff training sessions and I enjoy being in front of a crowd, I wasn't sure if I was really qualified to stand in front of a bunch of other camp directors (some with YEARS more experience than me) and say, "listen to me, I know a lot of stuff you don't." But I met with a camp director friend the night before to go over the general outline and she told me I had some original ideas and good topics, so I felt better after that.
Last week went well, but it was really the practice for today. And today ROCKED. The room was kind of small, and by the start time it was PACKED- wall to wall, people sitting on the floor, crammed in. But despite being jammed together, as I looked out at my crowd, everyone was totally engaged, listening, taking notes and asking me good questions. I didn't see anyone bored looking, texting and no one got up to leave early.
Afterwards, I got several great compliments and three different people told me it was the best session they'd been to so far.
So now I can say I'm an official presenter. Yay.
